Abstract

In India, the quest for clean energy innovations is not merely a technological pursuit but a human endeavour aimed at driving sustainable development. Faced with a burgeoning population and escalating energy demands, the nation grapples with the intricate balance between economic progress and environmental preservation. In response, India has embarked on a transformative journey towards renewable energy sources, underpinned by innovative technologies and forward-thinking policy frameworks. This abstract provides an inclusive overview of the current scenario and future potential for the sustainable energy sources sector, drawing insights from data spanning various sustainable energy sources including solar and wind power, bioenergy, small hydro, and large hydro. An analysis reveals significant momentum and growth within the sector, underscoring its critical role in steering towards a more sustainable energy landscape. Solar power emerges as a prominent contributor, characterized by substantial installed capacity alongside ongoing projects under implementation and tendered, signalling sustained expansion prospects. Likewise, wind power exhibits notable growth, albeit marginally smaller in scale compared to solar energy. The bioenergy sector, while offering consistent contributions, demonstrates slower immediate growth compared to solar and wind power. Conversely, both small and large hydro projects make substantial contributions to renewable energy capacity, with large hydro particularly noteworthy for their significant installed capacity and ongoing development endeavours. Overall, the findings underscore the sustainable energy sources sector’s pivotal role in tackling global energy challenges and facilitating the transition towards a sustainable energy future. However, achieving these objectives necessitates continual investment, innovation, and supportive policies to fully leverage the potential of renewable energy sources and propel the shift towards a cleaner, more resilient energy system.
