Abstract

In this knowledge-based economy, growth and expansion depends only on one factor and that is knowledge. In the current scenario, value can be created by increasing the intellectual potential in a company. Business success depends, therefore, on the ability and efficiency of using company knowledge. Bank, being the intellectual intensive industry, depend on the efficiency of its human resources for the success. The current study is an attempt to make a comparative analysis of human resource development through employee efficiency indicators of Indian commercial banks. The study is based on the secondary data taken from the annual report of the Reserve Bank of India for the year 2004-05 and 2011-12; for the comparison purpose, the current and eight years back period has been selected in the study. The study has been influenced by the 'Indian Banking Vision 2020' where one of the major challenges before Indian banks is to focus on human resource development.
